Fox hunting faces its last season of cheer this Christmas

We visited the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Austria or Germany at the end of November, to launch our Christmas Fair campaign. Taking to the streets of Birmingham, we talked to members of the public to encourage them to sign up to respond to the hunting consultation when it launches. We even spotted Santa handing out presents who was more than happy to support our campaign to end fox hunting.
Walking around Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market, surrounded by shimmering lights and the smell of roasting chestnuts, really highlighted how out of place fox hunting is. While this time of year advocates for peace to all, the reality is that so many foxes will continue to be chased through the countryside under the smokescreen that is ‘trail’ hunting. Speaking to the public in Birmingham, many were shocked to learn that fox hunting is still happening, despite it being illegal, and the support for making this the last Christmas season where foxes are hunted with dogs was powerful.
Along with this strong public support, we were happy to welcome some of our brilliant supporters to stand with us. Standing within the Christmas market during both the afternoon and the evening, we were all happy to talk to people about the reality of fox hunting and we are grateful to those supporters that took the time to join us. We held our festive placards to highlight that the time for change is now, alongside handing out leaflets asking people to sign up to take part in the hunting consultation that we are expecting early in the new year.
Sign up to take part in the Government consultation
Our event in Birmingham was the start of our Christmas market campaign, and we have been sending out lots of leaflets, placards and stickers to our supporters who will be attending their own local Christmas markets to spread the word about strengthening the Hunting Act. We look forward to hearing about their own events and seeing pictures of dedicated people braving the cold to take action for our precious wildlife.
If you see our campaign at your local Christmas market, please do say hi and make sure to take a leaflet and sign up to respond to the consultation if you haven’t already. This is going to be such an important moment for the animals, and your input will be invaluable. Together, we can make this the last season of cheer for fox hunting.
