We have a number of volunteer opportunities for passionate animal advocates. Partnering with like-minded individuals, together we can make the voice of animals louder, to ensure that they are heard. Together we can create a kinder society for animals and ensure that cruel ‘sports’ are a thing of the past.

Volunteer Activity – Rhododendron Control.

A throwback to the Victorian era of introducing exotic species to large estates, rhododendron has become an invasive species that threatens the diversity and existence of native woodlands. As part of the ongoing restoration of our temperate rainforest on Baronsdown, we will be clearing these plants for the benefit of our native ground flora and the trees of the future.

No experience is needed as full instruction and supervision will be provided (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Tools and equipment are supplied.

Please note, the land is uneven and hilly. Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear are advised, such as wellies or sturdy boots, long sleeves/trousers, and waterproofs.

Facilities

  • Toilets on site
  • Parking available
  • Tea and biscuits will be provided
  • If attending for the full day, please bring a packed lunch.

Volunteering at our wildlife reserves

The League owns nine wildlife reserves located around Exmoor, Dartmoor and the Quantock Hills – in the heart of heavy hunting areas – and animals are attracted to these safe havens because of the abundance of trees, food and shelter that reflect their natural habitat. We have volunteer roles from Butterfly, Bird and Mammal Surveyor to a general sanctuaries volunteer.

If you volunteer with our wildlife reserves team, you will learn about nature and conservation from our knowledgeable staff, learn new skills, meet like-minded people and spend time in the outdoors surrounded by an abundance of wildlife living free from persecution.

We also have Corporate Volunteering opportunities available for businesses and employees, to engage with nature and help protect our precious wildlife for future generations.

If you’re interested in volunteering at our wildlife reserves located around Exmoor, please either email info@league.org.uk or phone 01483 524250
