Behind the scenes: Unilever

Our intelligence and investigations team undertook an investigation into Unilever leasing land to a company that holds pheasant shoots at their Colworth site (Lee Farm) and were successful in shutting down any future shoot activity. 

On average it costs over £1,000 every year for our professional intelligence and investigations team to secure land registry documents.

A regular donation of just £3 a month would support our team to purchase the essential documents needed to prove ownership of land used for cruel sports.

Our findings were enough to confirm that Unilever and Bedfordia Farming were involved in shooting 'game' bird pheasants for sport. 

We contacted Unilever in December 2021, expecting to campaign to convince them to end the shoots. However, we received an unexpected and positive response earlier this year, stating the shoot will no longer operate on their land. We welcome this decision and praise Unilever for taking immediate action to prevent the suffering of pheasants on their land. 

Without your donations, we wouldn't have been able to prevent the future destruction of hundreds of young pheasants for ‘sport’.
