When is the best time of year to visit Baronsdown Wildlife Reserve?
All year round you will find breath-taking wildlife at Baronsdown. But there are two seasons in particular to be aware of when making your booking.
During October the Red Deer are rutting, so this is an excellent time to view stags.
In June and July, the Red Deer calves are born; this sets the stage for particularly magical encounters.
Where do I have to go? Will you meet me directly at the photography hide?
Someone from our conservation team will come and meet you at the entrance to the wildlife reserve and direct you to the photography hide, 15 minutes ahead of your allocated time.
When it’s time for you to leave the hide, we will meet you and drive you back to your car

What should I bring with me on the day?
Binoculars, camera equipment, outdoor clothing and footwear. Bear in mind that it can get cold in the photography hide, particularly in winter.
The only other thing you’ll need, is a lot of patience. However, for a wildlife photographer, we know that goes without saying!

Which species will I see?
As it’s a wildlife reserve and the animals are free to roam on and off the site, we cannot guarantee what wildlife you will see. But, depending on the time of year you visit, you could encounter the following:
- Red deer
- Fallow deer
- Foxes
- Buzzards
- Pheasants
- Redstarts
- Other small birds

North.
How far is the photography hide from the nearest parking and toilet facilities?
400m from both.
Can you describe the basic view outside the photography hide?
A grassy slope with hedgerow trees.
