Located in the north-west corner of Exmoor, Cowley Wood is an important remnant of Atlantic rainforest that once covered much of the region. Dominated by sessile oak trees, Cowley Wood is home to an array of mammals, including deer, bats, badgers and hazel dormice, as well as birds, amphibians and insects. The damp conditions also support a rich variety of ferns, mosses, and unusual lichens. The woodland is part of the Arlington Landscape Recovery Scheme, which aims to restore vital wildlife habitats in the area.
