Meet Our Database Manager
Posted 15th April 2026
What’s your role at the League?
As the Database Manager, I’m responsible for maintaining and developing our supporter database. This system securely stores important information such as names, addresses, donation history, and communication preferences. Keeping this data accurate and up to date is essential—not only for staying compliant with data protection laws like GDPR, but also for ensuring that our communications are effective and well-targeted. For example, we may want to send tailored messages to specific groups like members or monthly donors, and the database helps make that possible.
What are the team dynamics like at the League?
Although I primarily work remotely, I usually head into the office once a week. I really value these days as they give me the chance to catch up with colleagues I don’t normally interact with via Teams. I collaborate closely with the Fundraising and Finance teams, as well as external agencies that support us with certain data services. There’s a strong sense of teamwork and purpose across the board.
How do you manage work-life balance in your role?
Remote working plays a big part in helping me maintain a healthy work-life balance. I have the flexibility to adjust my hours when needed, provided I meet my responsibilities and deadlines. The League also encourages us to finish early on Fridays when possible, or to take longer lunch breaks to get outside and connect with nature—small gestures that make a big difference to wellbeing.
What learning and development opportunities are there?
There’s a real commitment to learning at the League. If there’s training that could help in your role, the organisation is usually happy to support it. Beyond formal training, we also have regular "lunch and learn" sessions led by colleagues from different departments. These are great opportunities to hear about other areas of the charity and expand your knowledge in a more informal setting.
What have been your highlights since joining the League?
I particularly enjoy improving our systems and processes. A few highlights include bringing our direct debit processing in-house, which has given us more control and efficiency, and integrating our online donation system directly with the database. These improvements make it easier for the team to engage with supporters effectively. It’s rewarding to know that my work plays a part in furthering the League’s mission to end cruelty to animals in the name of ‘sport’—by helping fundraisers reach the right people with the right message at the right time.
