Charity scoops prestigious award for being the best place to work

National animal welfare charity the League Against Cruel Sports has been named in the prestigious Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026 awards.

The charity has been recognised in the ‘Small Organisation’ category of the awards for workplaces with 10-49 employees, reflecting the staff’s commitment, engagement and the level of support and empowerment they enjoy in their work protecting animals.

This nationwide workplace survey honours and celebrates the UK’s best employers.

The awards highlight not only the best small, medium, big and very big organisations, but the best workplaces for women, the LGBTQ+ community, disabled employees, ethnic minorities, younger and older workers, and for wellbeing.

Emma Slawinksi, the League’s chief executive, said: “This award highlights that we are an organisation where people flourish, with the opportunity to play an important role ending cruel sports.

“Our staff team are the cornerstone of a community that includes our members, volunteers, and supporters. Whatever our individual roles, together we advocate for animals, and work with passion, commitment, and collaboration at the heart of all we do.”

The League’s success in the awards follows an annual staff survey run in March which showed a high performing organisation with outstanding levels of strategic clarity, employees’ engagement, and pride in their work.

Kelly Hack, chief of staff at the League, said: “I am incredibly proud of the team culture we have created collectively, and grateful to everyone who continues to contribute openly, thoughtfully and constructively to making the League even stronger.

“The League is an organisation where everyone can thrive and that people want to work at, as we strive to create a better world for animals.”

Emma, added: “It’s heartwarming to know we have some of the happiest employees in the country and we look forward to welcoming more talented people to the charity as we battle to end fox hunting, ‘game’ bird shooting, animal fighting and other cruel sports.

“Our team have been recognised for our work as a small organisation but we have employees with a big ambitions for animals, and a passion for change, who are achieving great things.”

The League Against Cruel Sports is Britain's leading charity that works to stop animals being persecuted, abused and killed for sport. The League was instrumental in helping bring about the landmark Hunting Act 2004, the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Act 2021, the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Act 2023 and bans on the use of snares brought about by the Agriculture (Wales) Act 2023, and Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Act 2024.

We carry out investigations to expose law-breaking and cruelty to animals and campaign for stronger animal protection laws and penalties. We work to change attitudes and behaviour through education and manage wildlife reserves. Find out more about our work at www.league.org.uk.
