Helping us shine a light on catapult crime
The League’s Head of Intelligence, Russ, recently appeared live on BBC Crimewatch to discuss Operation Lakeshot, an initiative that he leads to tackle catapult crime and protect wildlife.
Russ spoke about the worrying rise in young people using catapults to harm animals, the role social media trends play in encouraging this behaviour, and the work being done to tackle the problem.
Your support is helping the League shine a spotlight on wildlife crime with appearances on high profile shows like BBC Crimewatch, broadening awareness of its impact, consequences and what can be done to prevent these offences.
By helping us share these important messages on platforms with a national audience, you play a vital role in protecting wildlife.

Taking your voice directly to politicians
This autumn, your support has given the League vital opportunities to take your voice directly to politicians with the power to make change happen for animals.
From the SNP conference in Aberdeen to discussions with Plaid Cymru in Llandudno, you’ve helped us engage with politicians from across the political spectrum to press for the urgent action animals need.
In Northern Ireland, the League’s Director of Northern Ireland Robbie Marsland, alongside our CEO Emma Slawinski, gave evidence to the Committee for Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs at Stormont, answering a range of challenging questions from MLAs about the Hunting with Dogs Bill. Hunting with dogs is still legal in Northern Ireland but, thanks to your help, we’re continuing to build momentum with the Bill to ban it, pushing for no loopholes like trail hunting and no continuation of underground hunting with terriers.
At the Labour party conference in Liverpool, League Chief Executive, Emma, interviewed MP Ruth Jones about the hunting consultation. Watch the video below to hear what she had to say:
Chris Packham joins our collective mission
Your support has helped us reach a pivotal moment in League history with the recent announcement of environmental campaigner and broadcaster Chris Packham as our new President.
Chris has inspired countless people to take action to protect animals from cruelty in the name of ‘sport’. His interest in charity work and wildlife conservation, and his record in speaking up for animals and nature, means he is a perfect match for the League as we campaign to end blood sports across the UK.
I am a lifelong supporter of The League and am delighted to have this chance to collaborate with them to end cruel sports. Fox hunting is a barbaric practice, where people perpetrate cruelty for fun. The League’s approach of working from a strong evidence base, seeking to collaborate with other organisations and speaking truth to power gives me the confidence that together we can consign these animal abuses to the history books."
Chris Packham, League Against Cruel Sports President
Chris joins the League at a critical time, with the best opportunity since the flawed hunting ban more than 20 years ago to finally end fox, deer and hare hunting by supporting government moves to strengthen hunting laws and ban so-called trail hunting.
With your continued support, we can turn this opportunity into lasting change.
Inspired by what supporters make possible?
Thanks to people like you, animals have a stronger voice, wildlife has safe places to thrive, and we're moving closer to a world without cruel 'sports'.
If these stories have inspired you, there are more ways to make a difference. Whether you choose to speak up for animals, make a gift or show your support through our shop, every action helps build a kinder future for persecuted animals.
