A worthy winner
We are delighted to share that lifelong League supporter, Sheila Burkitt, has been awarded with the prestigious animal welfare honour, The Lord Houghton Award. Presented annually alongside, Animal Defenders International, OneKind and Cruelty Free International, with each charity taking it in turns to nominate a recipient, this year it was our turn.
Seen as a celebration of a person’s commitment and compassion towards animals, this award has previously been awarded to well-known celebrities and household names including Ricky Gervais and Linda McCartney.
And now Sheila Burkitt.
Sheila has been a loyal League supporter and volunteer for nearly 25 years and has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the persecution of animals. Sheila’s volunteering included campaigning on the streets, handing out leaflets, organising petitions and writing directly to people and institutions to support the work of the League.
