Latest News Tackling wildlife crime in the Midlands: what can you do? Have you ever wondered what can be done to stop illegal fox hunting? Do you know how to spot a deadly snare? Do you want to help stop wildlife crime in your area? Find out more about the work of the League Against Cruel Sports and how you can help us bring an end to the suffering of animals being harmed for ‘fun’. The League is holding an event featuring talks and an opportunity to meet like-minded people concerned about wildlife crime and looking for ways to tackle it. Emily Lawrence, the League Against Cruel Sports Regional Campaign Manager for the Midlands, said: “People would be shocked to know just how much wildlife crime takes places in the UK. Animals continue to be the victims of fox hunting, deer hunting, ‘game’ bird shooting and dog fighting and we hope to arm the public with the necessary knowledge to tackle wildlife crime.” The event takes place at The Priory Rooms, Quaker Meeting House, 40 Bull Street, Birmingham on June 23rd from 1.30pm to 5pm. Entry is free but tickets must be booked in advance here. The event will feature two talks: Roger Swaine, a member of the League Against Cruel Sports professional investigation team, will give his unique perspective on wildlife crime, illegal wildlife persecution and how to spot the signs of illegal activity such as fox hunting. Lawrie Phipps from Birders Against Wildlife Crime, will give a talk about how raptors suffer from illegal persecution by gamekeepers and people associated with the shooting industry. The event will also feature discussion groups:• Meet an investigator – an opportunity to discuss Roger’s views and get advice regarding wildlife crime.• Campaigning in your area – meet the League's Regional Campaign Manager Emily Lawrence and find out how you can get more involved with our work, or how our work can help you. Networking: An opportunity to meet, share ideas and have a casual drink with like-minded people from your area. Petition: The League is encouraging members of the public to sign their petition titled ‘stop the killing of animals by hunts in the UK’.
