The League Against Cruel Sports is today welcoming the election of Sir Keir Starmer as Leader of the Opposition, and the appointment of Angela Rayner as Deputy Leader and Chairman of the Labour Party.

Similarly, the League would like to congratulate Luke Pollard on his reappointment as Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

All three politicians have been staunch advocates of animal welfare in the past. In particular they have both supported the League’s key objective of seeing the Hunting Act strengthened - ensuring loopholes used by those who would continue to hunt and kill wild animals with dogs are no long allowed to get away with it.

We welcome the chance to work with the party on tightening legislation that will further protect wild animals from harm.
