League outraged at restaurant critic for pointless killing
The League Against Cruel Sports expressed outrage at the news that Sunday Times restaurant critic AA Gill shot a baboon on safari in Tanzania “to get a sense of what it might be like to kill someone”.
Gill recounted his experience in his Sunday Times column on 25th October in which he said he felt the urge to be a recreational primate killer.
The League's Head of Campaigns, Steve Taylor said Gill's actions were “morally completely indefensible”. He went on to say that “when man interacts with animals he owes a duty of care. If you are killing to eat, that is a different matter. This is killing for fun".
