The League welcomes motion opposing the proposed badger cull
Today’s overwhelming House of Common’s vote against the badger cull means that the majority of MPs agree with scientists, animal welfare organisations and the general public, that the cull is wrong and would be ineffective on scientific, humanitarian and practical grounds.
The postponement of the cull means that badgers have been given a stay of execution, not a pardon. While they remain on death row, the League and our partner organisations will continue to ensure that the cull is not just postponed, but abandoned for good.
Joe Duckworth, Chief Executive at the League Against Cruel Sports says: “We welcome working with the National Farmers Union (NFU) and other partners to encourage the Government to develop an effective bovine TB vaccine rather than 13 years of killing over 100,000 badgers to little effect on bovine TB.”

MPs voted through the following motion by a majority of 119.
That this House notes the e-petition on the planned badger cull, which has gathered more than 150,000 signatures; and calls on the Government to stop the cull and implement the more sustainable and humane solution of both a vaccination programme for badgers and cattle, along with improved testing and biosecurity.
