Animal charities unite to combat badger persecution

The League Against Cruel Sports is joining forces with other animal charities and wildlife organisations to speak out against the cruelty of badger persecution.

Despite badger baiting being banned for almost two centuries the sad reality is that this type of crime is on the rise. The League not only condemns this type of senseless cruelty but is taking the lead in ensuring the perpetrators of these crimes are brought to justice.

The League has begun a process of recruiting a force of specialist investigators which will primarily be ex-policemen who know how to gather evidence that can meet criminal prosecution standards. This will make the League the biggest agency in the country fighting wildlife crime, including barbaric activities such as badger baiting.

Joe Duckworth, Chief Executive said, “Wildlife crime is a hidden shame in this country. The extent and types of crime against animals is truly shocking and we are campaigning for a zero tolerance approach. Over the coming months we will invest more resources than ever before to have more trained staff in the field tackling these horrific and cowardly crimes against wildlife”.
