Happy New Era
People all around the world are gathering to celebrate the new year, perhaps none more so than in Catalonia, Spain where after years of campaigning a ban on bullfighting formally comes into force.
Liam Raftery, the League Against Cruel Sports bullfighting spokesperson said, “Bullfighting is a barbaric and outdated activity, and the people and politicians of Catalonia have bravely turned their backs on it.”
Mr Raftery added, “Last year a referendum in Ecuador supported banning bullfighting and there are movements already underway to ban bullfighting in other South American countries and Spanish regions.
Catalonia is the second of Spain’s 17 regions to ban bullfighting, after the Canary Islands outlawed it in 1991.
