Hunt Warned Under ASBO Act

24 March 2006

The League Against Cruel Sports today welcomed the 'warning notice' issued by Stroud Area Anti-Social Behaviour to individual members of the Cotswold Hunt. This followed a complaint made by a number of residents of Elcombe. This action was taken after Jeanne Berry sought advice from the League Against Cruel Sports and complained about the hunt trespassing on residents' land. Residents took action and the result is the first use of the ABSO Act against members of a hunt.

League spokesperson Wanda Wyporska said:

"I hope that members of the Cotswold Hunt realise the full importance of this action. They have been warned in no uncertain terms about their future behaviour. Hunts around the country will no doubt be distressed at this action. There can be no doubt that this is merely the first of many.

"Each week during the hunting season we receive many reports of hunts trespassing on people's land, terrorising their animals and livestock and causing havoc. This action will give hope to those who for far too long have suffered at the hands of the hunters."
