Wales Campaign

The picture regarding responsibility for the prevention of cruelty to animals in Wales is complicated.

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, the National Assembly for Wales has considerable powers in relation to domestic animal welfare. However, the Westminster Parliament retains authority for matters relating to hunting, shooting and snaring in Wales.

At the moment, issues relating to animal welfare occupy a prominent public position in Wales. This makes the work of the League all the more crucial. In an exciting development, we have appointed our first dedicated Wales campaigner, and we look forward to some excellent results.

More importantly, there is plenty that you can do to help us.

If you want to help us end cruelty to animals in the name of sport, you can join or set up a regional group with like minded people. We already have a keen and dedicated group of volunteers based in West Wales, but are keen to develop our network of supporters in other parts of the country.

Supporter groups run information stalls in their local town centres and at local events, organise library displays, plan and organise local campaigns and raise valuable funds for the League. To find out more, fill out our Get Active form.
