Coleraine
The priority campaign for our Coleraine and District group in Northern Ireland has been to campaign for permanent protection for the Irish hare; to protect the species from the cruel and barbaric practice of hare coursing and to help the declining population of hares to recover.
In June this year those who have been campaigning so hard for many years were thrilled when the Northern Ireland Assembly voted to make the cruel practice of hare coursing illegal under the new Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill. The groups new focus is to see similar success in making the manufacture, sale and use of snares illegal.
