"Many thought that with the passing of the Hunting Ban the work of opposing animal cruelty was done. Not so! There is much campaigning to do to protect animals from abuse and exploitation.

I have always supported the League's work in exposing cruelty to animals and believe that it is as important now as it was when we used the Parliament Act to oppose fox hunting.

We must continue to be vigilant in protecting gains made in protecting animals and opposing cruelty, as a member of the House of Lords I am always very conscious of that fact."
