Where your money goes
Your gifts will support all our campaigns and will help to end all cruelty to animals for sport.
How we spend every £1 you donate to us:
goes on our charitable activities (campaign work)
is spent on governance (management and running of the charity)
helps raise further funds to ensure we can continue our work
Donations will fund all our campaigns and all our work including:
- raising awareness of cruelty for sport and how it can be stopped
- exposing little known and secretive forms of cruelty and the perpetrators through investigations and reports
- gaining media coverage and celebrity support
- lobbying politicians / government to gain new laws and amending existing laws that stop cruel sports or to improve enforcement
- lobbying businesses who promote cruel sportsputting public pressure on government and businesses to take action
- Hunt Crimewatch, police liaison and legal team to ensure illegal hunters are brought to justice
They will also help with the maintenance of our wildlife sanctuaries.
Or go towards hunt monitoring equipment.
Some of our key achievements:
THIS YEAR
- A ban on bullfighting in Catalonia effective 2012
- Hare coursing has been banned in Northern Ireland
PREVIOUSLY
- Getting hunting banned in 2004 (effective 2005) after 80 years of campaigning
- Preventing shooting from being allowed on Sundays
- Making many large companies stop their promotions of bullfighting: British Airways, Ben & Jerry's, Waterstones, Eurostar
- Increasing the contribution the greyhound racing industry makes towards the welfare of the dogs (even if it is still nowhere near adequate)
- We came close to a ban on snares in Scotland in 2008 and we have high hopes that our ongoing work will pay off soon
- Working closely with the Police and CPS to ensure illegal hunters are brought to justice. To date there have been at least 136 convictions
Some of our challenges ahead:
SHORT AND MEDIUM TERM
- Ensuring hunting stays banned in England & Wales in the face of the new government's decision to reconsider the ban
- Ensuring hare coursing remains banned in Northern Ireland
- Helping to stamp out dog fighting, fox baiting, badger baiting and terrier work through our new Fighting Dogs campaign, working with specialists in these crimes
- Stopping the EU subsidies paid to bull farmers (they include UK taxpayers' money) and building international pressure on this 'industry'
- Gaining mass awareness of snares, the cruel and nnecessary traps which cause extreme suffering and kill indiscriminately - foxes, badgers, otterse and even pet cats and dogs are all victims
- Raising awareness of the plight suffered by game birds; this is not widely known and our work is focusing on exposing the hidden cruelty involved in this 'sport' so we can push for action
