Northern Ireland Campaign
In June 2010, the Northern Ireland Assembly took the historic decision to ban hare coursing. This followed months of sustained and detailed lobbying by the League Against Cruel Sports. Our priority is now to end the use of snares in the province, and to achieve permanent protection for the Irish hare.
The Irish hare is declining in numbers and to ensure that this much loved indigenous and rare species is protected for future generations to enjoy, the League believes that a permanent protection order should be put in place.
In a matter of weeks your local MLAs will decide whether to fully protect the Irish hare. Given the strong indication from the Department of Environment that the temporary orders could soon be lifted, this is your last chance to take action to tell your politicians you want to see these beautiful animals fully protected.
Please urge your local MLA to vote in favour of a legislative amendment which will permanently protect the Irish hare from being poached, coursed and killed.
