Team Badger yesterday brought the anti badger cull debate to Parliament. Brian May and our Vice President, Bill Oddie, along with the League Against Cruel Sports, RSPCA, IFAW and other parties, made the case against the cull to around 30 Members of Parliament.
Brian set out a very clear case against the cull on scientific, moral, humanitarian and practical grounds. Bill then made the point that it would be a travesty if all the good work that had been done to positively engage the farming community with wildlife support was undone by their anti wildlife stance on this issue. Numerous MPs then spoke and asked questions of Brian and the Chair of the meeting, Angela Smith MP.
Yesterday’s event was a prelude to the Backbench Business Committee meeting, which is due to be held this afternoon (Tuesday, 16 October). The Committee will decide whether the badger cull should be debated in the House of Commons and when.
Brian, along with other members of Team Badger, will be present for this meeting, which we hope will result in the debate being called as soon as possible. We will be ready whenever it is announced, but we still need your help and support.
