A cultural set back

Written by Christina on 04 October, 2012 : 09:11

The French Constitutional Council has recently upheld the right to host bullfights in some parts of France where bullfighting is classed as part of the region’s cultural heritage.

Last year the Ministry of Culture in France announced that bullfighting has been identified as an 'intangible cultural heritage'. This lead to concern amongst many animal welfare groups that the next step would be the registration of bullfighting as a world cultural heritage with UNESCO.

It is shocking that over 1000 animals each year have to be brutality and ritualistically killed in a perverse attempt to preserve 'culture'. One might ask if the same decision would have been made had the ‘tradition’ involved the suffering of humans.

Please help us to stop this cruelty and sign our petition against the corridas of the Pentecost Feria in Nîmes

If you would like to add your voice to the thousands of people who wish to see an end to the barbarity of bullfighting then please visit the Humane Society International’s website and contact UNESCO
