Pamplona Bull Run film

Written by Christina on 13 June, 2012 : 09:00

Last year the League Against Cruel Sports visited the festival of San Fermín in Pamplona to witness the cruel reality of the encierro or running of the bulls. What many people do not realise is that the bulls are chased through the streets directly to the bull ring where they will be killed later that day. The festival is now a popular tourist destination with many companies promoting it as a fun holiday for the thrill seeker, however the reality is very different.

We are urging people not to support bullfighting by attending the Pamplona Bull run so please watch this video now and then share it with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter using the links below.

Those who approve of or partake in this ghastly activity are a disgrace to the human race, there is no excuse for the persecution or torture of any animal no matter what it is. May God strike these individuals from the face f the earth and let the devil take care of them as they are obviously part of him.

This has no place is a civilised world.

simili "feste" sono degne solo di un Paese incivile e devono essere abolite.

Absolutely barbaric and disgusting, never support this, or the countries that partake. So upsetting, I would never visit this country or support it in any way.

This "happening" exist also in France: Nimes, Arles etc all this cities of the south of France and they are really proud of it. :((

I have lived in Pamplona for well over a decade. Indeed, I met my wife in the local Animal Protection Society! I believe we have to be realistic, it's unlikely to get rid of the lot in one go. I believe the stance here should not be primarily against the bull run in the street, but of the 'corrida' in the bull ring itself where the real damage is done. Spanish animal organizations, growing in support every year, go for the best case scenario - get rid of the torture inside the ring before tackling the bull run itself where animals do not die or receive the agony of the later corrida. Also, one should take care to distinguish cruelty - to which I am obviously 100% opposed - to the general San Fermin Festival of Pamplona and Navarre. There are many other activities which contribute to this week, such as concerts, spectacular fireworks, attractions funfair, and specialized local food and drink, and which should still be encouraged at the same time as sincerely demonstrating that animal suffering has no place in the 21st century.

STOP that cruelty.

so many seemingly healthy people present supporting this barbaric and extreme cruelty, I wonder if each has any intelligence or know what compassion is. They certainly do not share empathy with these poor animals. No wonder the world is so troubled.!

if we want to be regarded as civilized then it must be enough with these horrors

It is hard to believe that in this day and age, with our professed intelligence, we cannot find a more evolved way to "entertain" ourselves. Please do not use the tradition excuse; sacrifice, infanticide and incest were traditions as well but we seemed able to let those cherished traditions go. Bull runs and fighting are in fact sanctioned, yet illegal animal cruelty. The only reason they still exist is because they have been purposefully exempted from animal cruelty laws precisely because they could not pass regulations. I urge you to join the majority of the civilized world and stop participating in this blatant act of abuse.

Tweeted this, thank you for the post, It amazes me how ignorant people can be as to the cruelty of the run and the bulls death in the ring.

What a terrible last day on the earth those animals must endure. And then what happens afterwards, once they have been killed so inhumanely and suffered for so long?? Do they end up on meat-eaters plates with all that adrenaline intact? We need lots of Spanish people themselves to say 'no' to bullfighting which would give the cause more power as well as tourist saying 'no' to colluding with it.

"The majesty and moral progress of a country will be judged by the way it treats animals"-Gandhi. That says it all. Does it not?

It is well beyond the time, this should be stopped.

With all due respect, we are talking here about the bull running. I am Spanish, I was born in Pamplona and have lived since one hour away from the city. First to say I've been always against the bull fighting, never liked it and I can help but thing about the same like you guys. When it comes to the bull running things are different. This used to be a tradition where only family members from traditional houses were fully trained year by year to run before the bulls. When Hemingway came to Pamplona and saw it he couldn't help it but writing in his book, right. And with that, it couldn't be helped that people from abroad came to see it by themselves and overcrowd it like it is happening nowadays. I would love to respect that tradition in spite of the bullfighting, but don't blame the festivities, if you don't understand what does the whole festivity means to us locals, please don't go judging and patronizing. Kind regards, Paz

People that like this 'entertainment' can't be right in the head. How can they enjoy watching a defenceless animals get tortured and slaughtered right before them. It's sick. This is the 21st century, we should have moved away from this savage behaviour centuries ago.
John Wainwright
As a Christian I find this appalling and believe the pope should excommunicate those thugs who engage in bull fighting

First of all, women are allowed to run but only a ltilte wants to. Second, The "encierro" is at 8 am, the are two kind of people ,dunk ones that are sleeping at that time and the runners. Police take care that anyone drunk get out of the race, the runners take care that u.s drunk people get out of the race because several u.s people died running against the bulls, its not a game. There are some rules, you cant touch the bulls, never taunt them from behind and if you do that stupid things there are some cowboys -or ranchers and dont know how to translate that- , who hit you hard with a long cane if you do something dangerous. That brown bulls are castrated ones that arent so dangerous, that "mansos" runs whit the six bulls and help them to drive quickly to the "plaza". sorry my english, inst my mother language.
