Spare a thought for the Masters of Foxhounds Association (MFHA), no really. If their AGM is anything to go by it would seem the age of austerity has dealt them a severe blow.
In recent years, when the promises of repeal from the Countryside Alliance, Vote-Ok (remember them) and a certain political party were flowing thick and fast the calibre of the guest speakers (William Hague, Jim Paice) was high enough to merit the odd mention in the national press - sadly not this year.
Who did they manage to attract for a spell at the lectern 2011? Mr Simon Hart, Conservative MP, most recently employed as the Countryside Alliance’s Chief Executive. In fact to compound the misery of all the ‘Masters’ who made it to the shindig at Cheltenham they were also treated to the wise words of the current Alliance CE, Alice Barnard - let’s hope there was a free bar as we all know that the hunting community is struggling to identify what use the CA has been recently given all those membership fees received since the ban.
Perhaps next year they will dispense with guest speakers (if not the whole event) and face the fact that the British public wants nothing to do with their anti-social and cruel sport.
