Over the last few days, colleagues in our campaigns team have been calling those MPs whose position remained 'unknown' on our database. This has had a pretty dramatic impact and, as of this morning, the figures are as follows.
- 270 MPs would vote against repeal;
- 194 would vote for repeal;
- 3 would abstain; and
- 9 are undecided.
The 'unknowns' are down to 166, made up of 93 Conservatives, 43 Labour and 13 Liberal Democrats. If we were to assume that these 166 unknowns would vote in a similar manner to the other MPs in their party, a House of Commons vote would return 287 MPs for repeal and 313 against.
It's going to be close.
