The League visited Madrid to meet members of the culture committee to discuss the Proposed Legislative Initiative, which, if passed would protect the cruel practice of bullfighting.

On Tuesday 12th February 2013, the Spanish House of Representatives, backed by the pro bullfighting lobby, approved the passage of a legislative proposal, to consider protecting bullfighting as an intangible cultural heritage. In a 180-40 vote, the Parliament, where the governing conservative Popular Party (PP) has a majority, backed a petition signed by 590,000 people.

The French Constitutional Council has recently upheld the right to host bullfights in some parts of France where bullfighting is classed as part of the region’s cultural heritage.

The BBC was lazy when it contrasted the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix to a bullfight.
